The Story of MexrlDev
The first of MexrlDev. They had always been seeing the PlayStation community online, on Twitter. After they finally got their first PS4 Fat jailbroken — after a long time of waiting and missing firmwares that were gold such as 4.xx, 5.05, 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.02 — and finally at 12.50, 12.52 they stopped and were able to get it. That's when they felt like they belonged to this, like they belonged to developing things for people and for the PS, making useful homebrew and more. But they couldn't, because they didn't know where to start. As someone without experience, they waited.
When Vue was first announced as a userland in the early days, MexrlDev got excited knowing this would be so cool — especially after seeing EarthOnion doing all the cool stuff. That's when MexrlDev got excited to try and crack the AES code for Vue saves but failed, of course. They modded Vue 1.01 but never were able to get to it… until it was finally released. Due to lack of coding experience, they had to use ChatGPT, Copilot, to finally start what they always wanted…
MexrlDev started their journey after 1 day of the release of Vue After Free. They went through a lot, had done the first-ever mod on Vue — adding animations and a bit of polish. That's when they made their first post on X, named "the first ever vue mod", mentioning Dr.YenYen who was really kind and helped them throughout a lot, and mentioning EarthOnion, bringing more attention toward MexrlDev's projects. This is when MexrlDev started to work harder, spending whole days for 3 months without much rest to make the best mods they'd always dreamed of for the people and to do something for the community.
This is when they started to use DeepSeek. It helped a lot, but they had to spend many hours on projects due to AI's lack of eyes to see the final results — debugging so many things over and over again. MexrlDev spent hours fixing bugs with the AI, making sure everything went smooth and perfect until the theme was ready to be published. A lot went on, and there was a goal to make 100+ themes and games for Vue. The best of them were huge projects like the PS3 theme, Artemis (Mexrl's favorite), Apollo, Vue Cheat Manager, and many more good themes.
But sadly, they got stressed and had to stop. They couldn't handle it — their energy for making themes kept growing and they couldn't take breaks. That's when they started to get bored, stressed, unable to think straight, making projects that might not be useful or, of course, not working as expected. After all, MexrlDev stopped for a while and came back. As they lost their laptop, some stuff went on, and of course losing friends… which got them to finally delete their X account forever.
As days go by… this project will always be proof of how a passionate developer like MexrlDev (me) can make useful things and succeed with a project that was only supposed to be used once — just for a jailbreak. And the best part of MexrlDev is that they made a lot of friends, met a lot of good people, and helped lots of users as much as they could, with kindness toward everyone.
And now, as MexrlDev retired, they wish everyone good luck in everything they are passionate about. They truly love seeing people work on new things, especially using the code they built — for the community and for others to learn from for future projects. MexrlDev wasn't just a random person who appeared in the PlayStation hacking community, but someone who had a passion for helping people, making things better, working on projects that had been left behind, creating new ideas, and showing people that even an unknown person can become known through what they love.
What ended MexrlDev? Being depressed, stressed out, working on things they couldn't really understand (porting exploits, making things that didn't work and made them feel so embarrassed), not taking breaks, losing some friendships, etc.
What did MexrlDev leave for new developers? MexrlDev left a big folder with all the debugging they did for Vue, the things they found, and how to make things go correctly — due to the lack of info about how Vue works since it runs on JSMAF, including APIs.
Will MexrlDev ever come back? Nobody knows. As time goes by… who knows if MexrlDev will give it a second chance.
How is MexrlDev now? On July 25, 2026, MexrlDev has moved on, built a life, met someone they love, and finally… they feel happy. Even though MexrlDev can still become depressed suddenly, have mental breakdowns, or feel stressed, it's now under control — and they are happy. They have accepted whatever life gives them. They understood that there are some things they cannot control and chose to focus on making things better instead. They are trying to cure depression and live happy. Now, MexrlDev is living their life not just happily, but with a partner that they truly love and feel comfortable with.
